ITC had a strong-looking quarter in April–June 2026. Its sales grew by more than a quarter. Yet its profit went down. That odd mix is the reason many investors are now asking what the ITC share price target for 2050 could be.
This guide keeps things simple. We show where the stock stands, why profit fell, and what today’s price would turn into if ITC grew slowly, steadily or quickly for the next 24 years. The 2050 numbers are practice sums, not promises.
Quick answer
Nobody can say what the ITC share price will be in 2050. If we start from a reference price of about ₹258 and assume the stock grows at 5%, 8% or 11% a year, the three paths end near ₹830, ₹1,640 and ₹3,160. These are illustrations of how compounding works. They are not forecasts and not advice.
ITC share price today and its one-year range
| Item | Figure |
|---|---|
| Reference price (approx. close, 12 October 2026) | ₹257.90 |
| 52-week range | ₹253.15 to ₹426.40 |
At about ₹258 the stock sits close to the bottom of its one-year range. That does not tell you it will bounce, and it does not tell you it will fall further. It only tells you the market has been less excited about ITC over the past year.

What changed for ITC in 2026
Cigarettes are ITC’s biggest earner. In early 2026 the government raised the excise duty on cigarettes, which adds tax to every pack. The reports we read date this hike differently (January in some, February in others), so we do not quote an exact day. The official notification will carry it.
The April–June 2026 results show the effect clearly:
| Measure | Apr–Jun 2026 | Apr–Jun 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue from operations | ₹29,523 crore | ₹23,129 crore | about +28% |
| Net profit (owners of the company) | ₹4,394 crore | ₹5,244 crore | about –16% |
| Earnings per share | ₹3.51 | ₹4.19 | about –16% |
So why did sales jump while profit fell? Excise duty is counted inside reported sales. When the tax goes up, sales look bigger, but ITC does not keep that extra money. One analysis we read called the 28% rise largely tax-driven rather than a sign of faster demand.
Two other parts of the business tell a more mixed story. The packaged foods and personal care business (called FMCG-Others) grew revenue by 12% to ₹6,482 crore, and its segment profit rose 21% to ₹479 crore. The agri business went the other way, with revenue down 17%, which reports linked to trade disruption around West Asia.
Why two profit numbers? You may see ₹4,394 crore on some sites and ₹4,508.79 crore on others. The second figure is total profit after tax before minority shareholders, and it includes a one-time gain of ₹405.88 crore after Sproutlife Foods became a subsidiary. Always check which number a site is quoting.
How the 2050 scenarios are built
We use one plain formula: future price = today’s price × (1 + yearly growth) ^ number of years. We picked three growth rates only to show a range. They are not analyst targets.
- Cautious (5% a year): tax stays high, cigarette volumes slowly shrink, and other businesses only partly make up for it.
- Steady (8% a year): ITC passes on part of the tax, and packaged foods and personal care keep growing faster than the group.
- Strong (11% a year): non-cigarette businesses become a much bigger share of profit and the market rewards that.
| Year | Cautious (5% a year) | Steady (8% a year) | Strong (11% a year) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2030 | ₹315 | ₹350 | ₹390 |
| 2035 | ₹400 | ₹515 | ₹660 |
| 2040 | ₹510 | ₹760 | ₹1,110 |
| 2050 | ₹830 | ₹1,640 | ₹3,160 |
Two things to keep in mind when you read this table. First, ITC has been known as a regular dividend payer, and dividends are extra money on top of price growth, so the table understates what a long-term holder could receive. Second, 24 years of inflation is long. A rupee in 2050 will buy far less than a rupee today, so a bigger number does not always mean more real wealth.
What could help ITC
- Faster growth in packaged foods and personal care, which is already growing faster than the whole group.
- Ability to pass part of any tax rise on to customers without losing too many buyers.
- Regular dividends, which add to the return a long-term holder receives.
What could hurt ITC
- More excise duty hikes, or stricter rules on tobacco.
- Slow decline in cigarette use over many years.
- Weak agri trade, which already dragged revenue down 17% in the latest quarter.
- Tough competition in packaged food, where many brands fight for the same shelf.
How to track ITC yourself
- Live quote and announcements: NSE India and BSE India.
- Quarterly results, annual reports and dividend news: the investor section of ITC’s website.
- Check three numbers every quarter: cigarette segment profit, FMCG-Others growth, and total profit after tax.
What ₹1,00,000 could become (example)
| Scenario | Yearly growth assumed | Value in 2050 | Gain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cautious | 5% | ₹3,21,700 | +₹2,21,700 |
| Steady | 8% | ₹6,35,700 | +₹5,35,700 |
| Strong | 11% | ₹12,24,800 | +₹11,24,800 |
What to track every quarter
- Revenue and net profit compared with the same quarter last year.
- Operating margin (EBITDA margin) and whether it is rising or falling.
- Debt level and interest cost.
- Order book or new deals, if the company reports them.
- Promoter holding and any pledge of shares.
- Dividend and other corporate announcements on NSE and BSE.
Key terms in simple words
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| EBITDA | Profit from operations before interest, tax and depreciation. |
| PAT | Profit after tax, the profit left for owners. |
| 52-week range | The lowest and highest price in the last year. |
| Compounding | Growth on growth: each year’s gain is added to the base for the next year. |
How we prepared this article
We collect numbers from company results, exchange filings where available and public news and price pages, and we note the date of each price. Where sources disagree, we say so instead of picking one quietly. Scenario tables use a simple formula and are examples, not predictions. We do not take payment to publish targets. Found a mistake? Frequently asked questions
What is the ITC share price target for 2050?
No one can give a reliable single number. Using a reference price of about ₹258 and growth of 5% to 11% a year, the illustrative range is ₹830 to ₹3,160. Treat it as a way to understand compounding, not as a forecast.
Why did ITC profit fall when sales rose?
The government raised excise duty on cigarettes. That tax is included in reported sales, so sales looked higher, but the extra money goes to the government. The extra cost reduced ITC’s margin and profit.
Will ITC keep paying dividends until 2050?
Nobody can promise that. Dividends depend on future profit and board decisions. Check the latest announcement on the exchange before you assume a payout.
Is ITC a good stock for the long term?
That depends on your goals, time horizon and risk comfort, and we cannot judge that for you. Read the latest annual report, compare the risks above, and speak to a SEBI-registered adviser if you are unsure.
How often is this article updated?
We review it after each quarterly result and when major company news arrives. The review date is shown at the bottom of the page.
Where can I check the live share price?
On the NSE and BSE websites or in your broker’s app. Prices on this page carry a date and may be delayed.
Are the scenarios an analyst target?
No. They are simple examples built from one formula and different growth rates. Real prices can be far above or below them.
Conclusion
ITC is a strong, well-known company, but its latest quarter shows how much one tax decision can change its profit. A 2050 price depends on things nobody can see today. The better habit is to watch the business every quarter, keep your own assumptions written down, and update them as facts change.
